DeccanBridge Hyderabad — Litigation & Dispute Resolution

Commercial arbitration in Hyderabad.

Hyderabad is now an arbitration city — home to the IAMC. We run arbitrations as counsel, secure interim relief, and fight award challenges on both sides.

Dispute resolution built for business timelines

Arbitration under the Arbitration and Conciliation Act 1996 has become the default for serious commercial contracts — and Hyderabad has the infrastructure to match, anchored by the International Arbitration and Mediation Centre (IAMC) established here in 2021. A well-run arbitration delivers what commercial parties actually need: a binding award on a statutory clock (twelve months from completion of pleadings for domestic matters, extendable by six), confidentiality, and a tribunal chosen for domain expertise.

We appear as counsel in institutional and ad hoc arbitrations — construction, shareholder, technology, supply and infrastructure disputes — and handle the court interfaces that decide outcomes: Section 9 interim measures before and during arbitration, Section 11 appointment petitions, Section 34 challenges to awards and their defence, and Section 36 enforcement including against foreign awards under the New York Convention. We also draft the arbitration clauses that prevent half these fights.

What we handle

  • Arbitration counsel: End-to-end representation — statements of claim and defence, evidence, cross-examination and final argument before domestic and international tribunals.
  • Interim relief: Section 9 petitions for asset freezes, bank-guarantee injunctions and status-quo orders — the applications that protect the eventual award's value.
  • Tribunal constitution: Section 11 appointment petitions and strategic arbitrator selection — domain expertise on the tribunal changes outcomes.
  • Award challenges & defence: Section 34 petitions and their defence before Hyderabad's commercial courts — fought within the narrow, patent-illegality grounds that actually succeed.
  • Enforcement: Section 36 execution of domestic awards and New York Convention enforcement of foreign awards — tracing assets and converting paper to payment.
  • Clause architecture: Arbitration agreements drafted with enforceable seats, institutions, qualifications and escalation tiers — disputes are won at the drafting table first.

Common questions

Commercial Arbitration FAQ.

How long does arbitration take in India?
Domestic arbitrations must be completed within twelve months of pleadings closing, extendable by six months by consent — so 18-24 months from constitution to award is realistic, dramatically faster than commercial litigation of equivalent stakes.
What is the IAMC and why does it matter for Hyderabad parties?
The International Arbitration and Mediation Centre, established in Hyderabad in 2021, provides institutional administration, modern rules and hearing facilities locally. For Hyderabad parties it means institutional-quality arbitration without building a Mumbai or Singapore proceeding into every contract.
Can an arbitral award be appealed?
There is no appeal on merits. An award can only be challenged under Section 34 on narrow grounds — invalid agreement, lack of due process, excess of jurisdiction, or patent illegality for domestic awards. Most challenges fail; that finality is arbitration's core advantage.
Can foreign arbitral awards be enforced in Hyderabad?
Yes. New York Convention awards are enforced under Part II of the Act through the commercial courts, subject only to limited defences. We handle both enforcement and resisting enforcement, including asset identification within Telangana.
